As an undergraduate at UH, Melissa was involved in mainstage productions, projects in the Quintero black-box studio, student-directed works, and was frequently booked in local community theatres such as The Ensemble Theatre, The Silver House, and Seally Community Theatre.

Teatro Luna: Chicago's All-Latina Theatre Company

Shortly after graduation, she relocated to her hometown of Chicago to audition into Teatro Luna. After the world premier of CROSSED, she joined the ensemble as an Artistic Associate, and continued on tour with their daring and vibrant works such as PUTAS!, SEX-oh, Not Your Generic Latina, and Generation Sex.

SEXomedy: A Night of Naughtiness

SEXomedy was created in a series of events hosted by Teatro Luna called, One Night Stands. These included Noche Bohemia's, Marimachas, and Lunadas which featured woman of color in the arts. After compiling 3 separate pieces performed at the One-Night Stands, the play was workshopped at Luna Central in August, and had its official debut in Teatro Luna's Solo Tres Festival. It is now a successful self-produced, self-directed play that has been seen on various reputable stages in Chicago.
